Night Shelter

Saturday 19 July 2025

Location: Rise Climbing, Unit 6, Caxton Works, Hoy St, London E16 1ZA, United Kingdom
The Event
This is a grassroots fundraiser event in support of the Trans Winter Night Shelter. In light of the current hostile climate towards the trans community, we invite trans people to come climb and enjoy an evening of fun and community, and cis allies to come in solidarity and help us raise funds for the Trans Winter Night Shelter.
There will be bouldering, a partner bouldering problem, games, music, food, placard making and more.
Trans Winter Night Shelter
The Trans Winter Night Shelter seeks to provide a dignified, safe and supportive refuge for the Trans+ community who are homeless, escaping domestic abuse, seeking asylum, or at risk of sleeping rough, and seeks to meet the needs of Trans people as they face unique risks and discrimination when homeless and attempting to access existing crisis housing services. The shelter runs during the winter months, and this fundraiser will go towards their 2025/26 shelter.
The shelter is run by the Outside Project who are “an LGBTIQ+ Community Shelter, Centre and Domestic Abuse Refuge in response to those within the LGBTIQ+ community who feel endangered, who are homeless, ‘hidden’ homeless and feel that they are on the outside of services due to historical and present prejudice in society and in their homes.” They are a registered non-profit Community Interest Company (CIC), with registration number 11089873.
You can learn more about the shelter here and about the wider work of the Outside Project here.
Who is the event for?
This event is open to all trans people and cis allies. We welcome trans folks to come climb and enjoy an evening of fun and community, and cis allies to come in solidarity and help us raise funds for the Trans Winter Night Shelter.
This event is hosted by Queer Climber London and Asian Climbing Crew, but you do not have to be queer or Asian to attend this event.
Climbing and Games
There will be bouldering, climbing games, and challenges.
We will also have a partner boulder challenge set especially for this event! The climb can only be completed by two climbers together! Give it a try with an old friend or even a new one!
You also do not have to be a climber to attend this event. You’re welcome to give climbing a go, but also there’s plenty of other stuff to do and a wonderful community of people to connect with!
Food
We will be serving food, with all proceeds after costs going towards the fundraiser.
Mango Sticky Rice (gf) - £4.50 - You can pre-order this now at checkout. There are limited portions, so if you fancy a portion then re recommend you pre-order now!
More information to come on other food options. Stay tuned!
We will have disposable cutlery and bowls available. But if you are able to, you’re encouraged to bring a bowl and cutlery for yourself to reduce single-use waste.
Rise will also be selling drinks including non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages on the night, including their famously yummy cocktails.
Placard Making
This event takes place the week before the London Trans Pride March on 26 July. As such, this event is the perfect time to make some placards for the march on the following weekend!
We will have a placard making station where you can make and decorate placards. We welcome you to make as many signs as you’d like for yourself to bring to the march but also for your friends and family. There will also be a placard bank where you can leave or take placards. We want to fill the streets on 26 July with our loud and colourful messages of support for trans rights and trans people, our love and our rage.
We will provide some materials for placard making and decorating including cardboard, paint, brushes and stickers. However, our resources are limited, so we encourage attendees to bring any supplies they have - especially cardboard, and paint brushes.
Weather permitting the placard making station will be outside under a gazebo in the summer air!

Queer Climbers London (QCL) create empowering spaces where LGBTQIA+ folk can be their true selves, learn new skills, and participate in a social sport. We exist to challenge the lack of representation, create a welcoming environment, and make the UK climbing community more accessible for LGBTQIA+ folk.
Asian Climbing Crew (ACC) is a London community group which seeks to increase diversity, inclusion and access to climbing by creating a space for Asians to climb together, have fun and build connections and community.

Rise Climbing is an independent bouldering centre. Rise sets problems from very easy to super hard, so there is plenty to do for complete beginners, and experienced climbers alike. Rise's founders aspire to make Rise feel like a safe and welcoming space, where people feel at home.
